Emily has accepted tenancy in the family team having completed a specialist family law pupillage under the supervision of Louise McCallum and Tony Hajimitsis. Emily accepts instructions in all aspects of family law and regularly represents parents, local authorities, children and grandparents in care proceedings. In private law proceedings Emily acts on behalf of parents at various stages of the court process.
Emily is approachable and builds rapport quickly with lay clients. Her sense of professionalism facilitates strong relationships with professional clients. Emily spent two years volunteering with the pro bono charity The Personal Support Unit assisting litigants in person in the family courts which has provided a solid foundation for her career at the family bar.
Emily has come to the bar following a career in media and the arts. While studying at law school Emily was part of the committee which set up the very first Bar Society at ULaw and organised events such as advocacy skills workshops and a talk from an eminent female QC about women at the Bar. Emily went on to be President of the Bar Society at BPP Manchester while completing the BPTC, as well as Student Director of the Children’s Rights Advocacy Group. In that role Emily assisted the founder of the project to set up a new pro bono initiative to advocate for families of children excluded from school.
In her spare time Emily enjoys cooking for friends and family, going to gigs and competing in Tough Mudder events.
