Reported Cases

Ribee v. Norrie [2001] PIQRP8, a successful appeal to the CA, where duties of an absentee landlord in relation to personal injury caused by the escape of fire and nuisance were laid down.

Jeffrey v. CMB [1999] CLY 461, a successful appeal to the CA on limitation of actions for deafness claims.

Gouldsborough v. Thompson [1996] PIQRQ 86—quantifying future loss.

Hill v. Chief Constable of West Yorkshire [1989] AC 53 (the 'Yorkshire Ripper' case).

Notable Cases

Hardaker v. Huby (1962) ('plumber without mate'); What is believed to be the first award of £200,000 general damages by the CICA to a tetraplegic child. Awards of £2.9 and £2.8 million to severely injured children.

Personal Information

During his spare time John is involved in charitable and public work (including membership of a housing association board for over 40 years) and enjoys music, art, reading and walking.
