An experienced criminal law specialist, Tom appears regularly on behalf of both prosecution and defence.  Described in 2003 edition of 'The Legal 500' as a "thorough advocate", he has experience of all levels of practice, ranging from contested committal proceedings to sentence and conviction appeals before the Court of Appeal.
 
Tom routinely deals with all areas of criminal law, including:

• Offences involving violence
• The possession and supply of controlled drugs
• Sexual offences
• Fraud and similar offences

He has particular experience of the following types of cases:

• Large-scale importation of controlled drugs, and cigarettes, and associated Drug Trafficking Act / Proceeds of Crime Act enquiries
• Forensic accountancy evidence in the context of business-related fraud
• Abuse of process and severance arguments in historical sexual abuse cases
• Murder, with issues concerning defendant's mental state at time of killing
• Regulatory offences, again appearing for both prosecution and defence, in Magistrates, Crown and Divisional Courts

R v Ronald Castree (Bradford Crown Court, October 2007): junior prosecuting counsel in case invloving the murder of 11 year-old Lesley Molseed in 1975 (for which Stefan Kisko was wrongly convicted in 1976).

R v Michael Donovan & Karen Matthews (Leeds Crown Court, November 2008): junior prosecuting counsel in case invloving the kidnap and false imprisonment of 9 year-old Shannon Matthews.

R v Abobakir Jabari (Sheffield Crown Court, November 2008): junior defence counsel in case involving the murder of Lidia Motylska, a Polish national, in alleyway in Lincoln Green, Leeds, in October 2007.
