Instruct this Barrister

Crime Profile
Summary of Practice

Zenith Chambers congratulate Simon Hickey on his appointment as a District Judge, effective from the 23 February 2009, when he will be found sitting at Middlesbrough.

When practising as a barrister, he was a senior and very talented member of the team, since 1995, Simon has specialised in prosecuting in rape and other serious sexual assault cases with victims of both sexes across a range of ages.  He is instructed by all CS areas on the North Eastern Circuit.

He has been involved at all stages of the trial process.  For example pre-trial advice, trial and post-trial advice, drafting skeleton arguments on the Abuse of Process (historic sex cases), Section 41 (complainant’s sexual history) and on third party disclosure.  He regularly provides case summaries, draft indictments and advice and drafting upon SOPOs.

He welcomes conferences with lawyers, police officers and case workers and feels it is of benefit to meet the complainants in his cases to put them at their ease and explain Court process; something he does in every case he prosecutes.

Simon attended the approved training course, North Eastern Circuit Seminar in June 2007 on rape and other serious sexual offices.
