Our Team
We are one of a few Chambers in the UK who have a dedicated Court Martial team. The team specialise in handling a range of court martial cases at all levels of command. It is headed by an experienced criminal barrister, Simon Perkins, who was formerly in the RAF.
Our court martial team are experienced in representing servicemen facing court martial proceedings and regularly appear before military courts both in the UK and abroad.
Our barristers are sensitive to the anxiety caused by an allegation and the investigations that follow. They also understand the realities of life in the services, which enables them to establish the trust of the service personnel. These factors, combined with sound knowledge of the law and strong advocacy skills, allow them to deliver robust and successful defences.
Our Expertise
The team represent serviceman from all divisions and level of command in the Armed Forces. They have expertise of handling a range of allegations, including (but not limited to), absence without leave (AWOL); theft; rape; possession of indecent photographs and those involving serious of violent offences.
Our fees are covered by the Armed Forces Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (AFCLAS). Therefore, if you are a serviceman seeking representation, you will not be expected to pay for the legal representation that you receive from us. It is worth noting, that whilst AFCLAS may allocate you a barrister, you are not obliged to go with their selection. You are free to make your own choice as to whom you have representing you. Please do not hesitate to contact us further about this.
The logistics of representing service personnel is something that the team is well accustomed to handling. Use of email, mobile and video conferencing ensures prompt communication and delivery of advice, particularly when timing is crucial.
