Howard practises in Criminal Law, defending and prosecuting all manner of cases in the full range of criminal courts. He has represented appellants many times in the Court of Appeal and has dealt with a number of Appeals by Case Stated before the Administrative Court.
He routinely deals with serious crime including serious assaults, public order matters, firearms offences, drug trafficking offences, sexual offences, arson, burglary and fraud.
He also regularly deals with a range of regulatory matters, having been instructed in a number of cases involving food hygiene offences, health and safety matters and environmental offences, where technical scientific issues were involved.
Howard has extensive experience in dealing with benefit fraud offences and Trading Standards matters.

A case involving the statutory interpretation of complicated football banning order legislation - R v William Ainscow [2003] EWCA Crim 1508
Represented the elderly appellant in his appeal against sentence in the Court of Appeal. He ran a post office and stole a number of pension order books, which he subsequently cashed, in order to finance the upkeep of his daughter who suffered from Asperger's Syndrome. The case became the subject of a television documentary drama.
