Lewis practises in all areas of family law with an emphasis on public law children proceedings representing local authorities, parents, guardians and other interested parties. He also accepts instructions in matrimonial finance and co-habitation disputes as well as claims under the Inheritance Act.
In public law proceedings, Lewis has experience of Interim Care Orders, Supervision Orders, Special Guardianship Orders and Placement Orders as well as applications under s.38(6) and applications for contact with children in care. Experience of representing parties in cases of purported non-accidental injuries, most notably fractured skulls and arms as well as cases of neglect including physical and emotional abuse.
Lewis undertakes private law proceedings under the Children Act 1989. He has experience of cases involving removal both within and outside the jurisdiction, residence and contact disputes involving parties other than parents (grandparents, siblings, step-parents). Lewis also regularly appears in finding of fact hearings involving allegations of domestic and sexual violence as well as allegations of violence to children.
He has experience of Financial Dispute Resolution and final hearings in ancillary relief proceedings, as well as applications under s.37 MCA 1973 to set aside dispositions to prevent financial relief.
