Simon runs an extensive practice concentrating solely on criminal law. He represents both Defence and Prosecution and has been involved in a number of cases of murder, serious sexual abuse, death by dangerous driving and serious fraud.
He was junior counsel in a series of trials involving sexual abuse at a children's home. He also prosecutes benefit frauds and some licensing work for Local Authorities.
Notable Cases
- R v Matthews & Donovan (2008): acting for the prosecution as Junior to Julian Goose QC in the case concerning the kidnap of the 9 year old Shannon Matthews by her mother Karen.
- Junior counsel in murders and serious sexual assaults.
- Prosecuting Counsel in a case of causing death by careless driving whilst over the prescribed limit. The case involved an unusual and complex point of law relating to the taking of a blood sample after diamorphine had been given as a painkiller.
- Prosecuting Counsel in a large fraud involving a local authority.
- Leading Counsel in several trials involving police operations and conspiracies to supply drugs.
- Defence Counsel in a large fraud involving over £150,000 on a local authority by a number of employees. The trial was lengthy and involved complex matters of law and issues of Human Rights.
- Junior Counsel for Prosecution in trial for rape, indecent assaults and physical assaults on former partners and step daughter. The trial involved a successful prosecution for marital rape for an offence committed before the change in the law
