Consultation on proposed changes to the Child Maintenance scheme

There are only a few days left to register your feedback on the governments proposed changes to the Child Maintenance scheme. Closing date for your submissions is 23rd February 2012.

With the strain on the public purse at breaking point, this is another initiative by the government to ease the burden...but what are the potential long term consequences? The plan includes increasing the amount of maintenance paid by parents on state benefits and low incomes. The government believe that these changes will result in a "fairer, faster and less costly" child maintenance system. As a family solicitor working with low income familes, what impact do you think the changes will have?

The proposal in contained in the Child Support Maintenance Calculation Regulations 2012 - a technical consultation on the draft regulations. Click to read the proposal in full and register your views.
