We are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for another industry award.
Hot on the heels of our success at the recent Yorkshire Lawyer Awards last week, we have learnt that John Collins, one of our most well established and highly regarded Barristers has been shortlisted for the Bar Pro Bono Award.
The award is designed to recognise the contribution made by barristers who provide legal advice and representation for free. These cases are often challenging ones and are commonly referred to the Bar Pro Bono Unit as a 'last resort' given that in many cases funding has been withdrawn or those originally instructed are reluctant to take the case further.
John's case exemplified this. Over the last 15 months he has been representing Heather Ilott in respect of her claim for inheritance under her mothers Will. Those working in the field of inheritance law will be very familiar with the case - Ilott v Mitson & Others [2011] EWCA Civ 346 CA (Civ Div). - which has received considerable coverage in the legal press.
The winner will be announced at the Bar Conference on 5th November 2011. Good luck John!
