On 28th June, the head of our Court Martial team, Simon Perkins travelled to Catterick Garrison for an interview with Garrison FM’s broadcaster, Rafe Parker. Garrison FM is the Army’s own radio service for troops based in Britain and provide army news to soldiers, their families and the wider army community.
Simon gave the first is a series of planned interviews which informed listeners about the a Commanding Officers’ jurisdiction, including who should investigate alleged offences; who decides if a charge should be levied and the extent of a CO powers of punishment.
“Discipline is an essential component of military life,” Simon explained “and the power of commanders to punish breaches of discipline is integral to the maintenance of discipline and the operation efficiency of the armed forces.”
